Old Customs vs New Blood
Just wanted to rant about a few things
Change of AWARE leadership
AWARE ( Association of Women And Research ) has a new President and Exco on March 28. This move prompted fury of critics, not from the public, but from old and veteran members.
It seems like these veterans are not receptive to changes and are looking to have a vote of No-Confidence next month.
AWARE is a non profitable voluntary group. Not a listed company. Not even a SME. Its purpose is to serve the calls of woman in Singapore. But yet, I feel, the whole leadership change has been a victim of internal politics and ,of cos, media exaggeration.
Every reign will have an end. The old guard's time have ended. Why not give the fresh blood a chance? Why give them so much trouble? It was known that the new President even risked her job with DBS to take up this role. Why more must she do to convince the old guard? And why make her job so difficult?
It goes the same for any organization. Every President sort of faces problems, managing the present and old members of the organization. I really empathize with Ms Lau as she tries to convince the veterans. Are we too caught up with old traditions or even stupid customs to listen to the older ones just because they have "been there done that?" I feel this incident certainly reflects the behavior of our society, that it is still not willing to let young fresh blood take the front.
Sad.
